"I paint sporadically, spontaneously and sometimes only after months of research, meditation and reflection."
"I paint out of the taoist tradition and as such my work is an extension of my life."
These paintings are narratives, stories that can be read about change and movement. They owe little to the pictorial nature of Western Art, which is often about the representation of static images. They do however sit happily within the tradition of Taoist Art, where the sole interest is in transformation, in change in all its guises and where the Art is understood to be transformative itself.
The part that stillness, quiet and absence plays in this ever moving natural order, as well as echoes of things not quite fully present and the multifaceted nature of emerging and diminishing realities, is unsurprisingly present in the paintings.
For a true understanding of the work it is best to simply be in front of the paintings and become part of the process that comes about as you view and they in turn are viewed.
